Draw a loop around Gems and Cells to select them.
Use the lasso to select by each Gem or Cell’s center. A tap selects one item. Hold Shift while drawing to add to your selection. Drag a Pod’s name in wrench Edit Mode to move its members together. Saved Pods contain independent copies and relative positions.
Touch, listen, explore. Start here, then open any chapter below. This guide describes the features available in this version.
Green power means on and ready; red means off. Your first musical touch unlocks browser audio. Opening this guide does not pause sequencers or recording. Use Stop above if you want silence while reading.
Find Pong on the right side of the Soma. Press the glowing ▶ button beneath the circle to play, pause or resume the ball, or drag and release it to throw. Open + for physics and sound settings. The circular rim contains fourteen colored Gems spanning two registers. The ball reflects from the curved rim. Catch the visible ball and flick it to throw. The recent direction and speed of your finger set the throw; holding still before release places the ball without launching it. Use the + beneath Pong for its expanded delay, tone, rate and physics popup. In wrench Edit Mode, drag the Cell itself to move it; its position is saved with the project.
Choose Float, Gravity, or Wild Spin, then adjust speed, longevity, gravity and spin. Maximum longevity removes decay. Spin redirects each bounce without adding energy, and gravity curves the path within the current speed limit. Choose Free to set the pace with speed and throws, or Synced to time rim strikes to the selected note rate. All fifteen rates remain available, from 1/32 notes through two bars, including triplets and dotted notes. The inactive speed or note-rate control is dimmed; its value is kept for the other mode. Changing speed preserves heading. Sound, level and effects never restart the ball’s motion or beat phase.
↺ stops and centers the ball; the clock icon switches between Free and Synced, just like the buttons in the + menu. Power stops the whole instrument. Pong stops when the page is hidden; press ▶ to play again. Delay follows the shared tempo; its mix and feedback are independent of other Cells. Reset clears the echo. Its settings are saved with the project; motion is not restored automatically. The mixer includes a Pong Cell level. Save its sound, delay, level, physics and timing settings in the Cells tab of the Gem & Cell library.
The visual library holds sweep Gems, Tricell, Radial Cell, Pong Cell, ArpCell, Beat Cell, Percussion Cell, Sampler Cell, and saved Pods. Drag a miniature onto the Soma to create an independent, playable copy. All instances share the Soma’s tempo and harmony.
Each tall key holds the same note in three registers, separated by faint lines. Low is at the bottom; high is at the top. Adjacent registers are one octave apart. Crossing a divider creates a gentle 65 ms glide; touching a fresh note starts directly at its pitch. Each finger has an independent voice, so moving one finger does not bend the rest of a chord.
In the default C-major setting, the first key plays C4, C5 and C6 from bottom to top. Changing ♬ transposes the keyboard and changes its scale.
Drag along a sweep to move through its notes. Drag the radial or triangle control to explore their pitch and sound relationships. SNP controls return behavior where available.
Tap the center of the drum, percussion or ARP control to start or stop its repeating pattern. In Edit Mode, use EDIT BEAT, EDIT PERC or EDIT ARP to open its editor. Finish with SAVE & CLOSE.
Beat Cell: choose from 28 factory beats plus Custom. The rhythm editor provides seven drum lanes, 1–4 bars, straight and triplet grids, three kits, and swing. Draw hits, then choose Edit hits to change a hit’s velocity, probability, roll count or timing offset. Timing is measured in beats: negative plays early, positive plays late. Rolls subdivide one grid step; probability decides whether the whole hit or roll plays on each loop.
Audition plays the working draft. Undo, Cancel and Escape let you back out; Save & Close commits it as Custom. Copy/paste bars, rotate a bar with Shift, or Humanize its velocity and timing. The Euclidean generator spreads hits evenly over one lane. Increasing the length adds empty bars; reducing it trims bars, with Undo available. Leave wrench Edit Mode, then tap the Beat Cell center to play your pattern.
Tap + to expand a source’s controls and − to tuck them away. Hiding a menu does not turn its effects off. These buttons hide during layout editing.
Effects begin bypassed. Tap an effect to enable and adjust it. Reopening an enabled effect shows its controls; tapping its already-selected button switches it off.
Open the Gem icon to browse miniature cards. Filter by Gems, Cells or Pods, or search by name. Drag the miniature picture onto the Soma; the Add button finds a free position. Each drop creates an independent copy. Open a dropped Cell’s + to change its settings, choose rhythmic presets, save it, or remove it.
Use the lasso in the top toolbar to draw a loop around items. Items whose centers fall inside are selected; a tap selects one. Hold Shift to add another selection. Choose Group as Pod and give it a name. In wrench Edit Mode, drag the Pod’s name to move the whole group. Save Pod to library stores settings and relative positions; dropping that Pod creates independent copies of its members. Ungroup keeps the individual items.
The Soma supports 32 sweep Gems and 16 additional Cells. The library holds 64 saved entries. Save Project includes added Cells, Pod groups and sampler audio. Export Library backs up saved Gems, Cells and Pods separately.
Replicants have independent sound settings. They still share the Soma’s key, scale, mixer and global echo. New Gems extend the working surface if there is no clear space; use Zoom to reach them.
For Cells, switch to the Cells tab and use the save controls to name the original Cell’s current settings. A dropped Cell has its own Save Cell button in its + menu. Starter presets are included. ArpCell preserves its sequence as scale degrees so it follows the Soma’s current harmony. Beat Cell preserves its pattern, kit, swing, length and hit details.
The current limits are 32 live sweep Gems and 64 saved Gem and Cell library entries. Export library creates a portable backup; Import library adds entries without replacing existing ones. Delete saved removes a library entry after confirmation, not Gems already in your Soma.
Select a source, choose 1, 2 or 4 bars, and Record. Recording begins at the next bar boundary. Touch and move while the take runs; keyboard chords are included. The recorded movement repeats with a ghost indicator. Each source holds one replaceable clip, with Undo for the previous clip. Mute and Solo let you audition loops.
These are recorded touch gestures, not a complete song timeline. Finish a take before changing tempo or editing the instrument.
Bloom adds a short reverb swell when you touch empty space or move off a sound control. It is on by default. Gate silences the mix while a finger holds empty space; releasing restores the running mix. Off disables these empty-space behaviors.
❄ Freeze echo holds the shared delay while keeping new notes out of that delay. Enable DLY on a source, play a phrase, then freeze it. Release returns to normal delay behavior. Freeze is temporary, is not saved in projects, and is cleared by Stop.
Open the floppy-disk button beside ⚙ for Projects, or press Ctrl / ⌘ S. Recording downloads remain in ⚙.
Download your take before starting another or closing the page. Project files and audio recordings are different: a project keeps editable settings and loops, while audio captures the performance you heard. Finish any pattern editor with SAVE & CLOSE before saving.

Bloom: tap empty space or slide off a pad to swell the whole mix into a short reverb trail.
Gate: hold empty space to silence the mix. Lift every gating finger to release it; the rhythm keeps running.
Pad areas and their controls are protected. Only musical touches enter the Void; it stays off during layout editing.
Enable a pad’s DLY, play a phrase, then freeze its echo. Stop clears it.
Choose a section. Recording starts on the next bar, then loops automatically.
Record held movements and lifts. One loop per section; other sections keep playing. Record again to replace a loop. Undo restores its previous take. Rebound motion after lifting is not recorded in this first version.
Mute and Solo affect the selected section’s recorded loop; live pads stay playable.
Keep this tab visible and leave tempo unchanged during a take. Save Project includes loops; use Play Loops after reopening.
Retunes the melodic pads and recorded gestures together. Each key has three registers: low, middle, and high. Adjacent registers stay exactly one octave apart, with a gentle glide when you cross a divider.
Drag a miniature onto the Soma, or use Add. Every drop creates an independent copy.
Save a sweep’s sound and gesture. Added Gems follow the Soma’s key and scale; global mixer and echo settings stay shared.
In Edit Mode, drag a Gem’s body to move it and its lower-right handle to resize it.
Save a live sweep Gem here, then drag its saved miniature onto the Soma.
Save the original Cell below, or use a dropped Cell’s + menu to save that instance. Drag a card to create an independent Cell. All Cells share the Soma’s key and tempo.
Choose a starter Cell below, or save your current settings.

Source levels feed their shared section faders, then the Soma master. Only sweep Gems present in this Soma are listed.
Delay timing, feedback and wet level are shared. Enable DLY in a source’s + menu to send it to the delay. Reverb adds a continuous shared room sound; Void Bloom remains available.
